Funds spent on scheme One hundred Smart Cities Vision

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) the steps taken in respect of towns being developed as Smart Cities till date, State-wise, by modernizing them under the ‘One Hundred Smart Cities Vision’ of the Prime Minister; and
(b) the details of total amount of funds spent on the said scheme out of the budgetary allocation of Rs. 7060 crore made in Financial Year 2015-16 and per capita investment cost to be incurred in implementing the above programme?

STATEMENT
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 206 FOR ANSWER ON 12.05.2016 REGARDING FUNDS SPENT ON SCHEME ONE HUNDRED SMART CITIES
(a): There broad steps have been taken for developing towns into Smart Cities. First, a Challenge (Competition) has been conducted and 20 winning Smart Cities announced. Second, Round 2 of the Challenge has been started. Third, implementation has been started in the 20 Smart Cities and the first instalment of Rs. 2522 crore has been released to 13 Smart Cities.
(b): During the last Financial Year (2015-16), Rs. 1496.20 crore was allocated under the Smart Cities Mission and Rs. 1475.20 crore was released. This includes Rs. 2 crore released to each potential Smart City to make preparations to participate in the Challenge. The Smart City Proposals (SCPs) of 20 Smart Cities show that they will spend Rs. 48,063.61 crore to implement their SCPs. The money will be spent on a mix of components at the city level and at area level. As such, it is not possible to calculate the per capita costs at city level.
