(a)whether the Government proposes to provide housing facility to tea labourers in the country in line with the National Housing Scheme and if so, the details thereof;

Housing Scheme for Tea Labourers

Will the Minister of LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT be pleased to state:-
(a)whether the Government proposes to provide housing facility to tea labourers in the country in line with the National Housing Scheme and if so, the details thereof;

(b)whether the Government proposes to provide any additional housing subsidy for tea labourers and if so, the details thereof; and
(c)the number of houses constructed for tea labourers during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise?

ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE (IC) FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT
(SHRI BANDARU DATTATREYA)

(a) to (c): Housing facilities to tea labourers are considered under Plantation Labour Act, 1951, Section 15 and as per Plantation Labour Act, 1951, it is the duty of every employer to provide and maintain necessary housing accommodation to every worker (including his family) residing in the plantation and those who reside outside the plantation but have put in six months of continuous service in such plantation. The provisions of the said Act are governed and monitored by the concerned State Government. As informed by the Tea Board, the number of houses available in tea plantations state wise in the country are as per annexure.
