(a) whether any study has been conducted to see whether unemployment in urban areas is increasing in comparison to rural areas;
(b) whether a large number of unemployed have migrated back to their native places in the absence of employment opportunities in the cities and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken/being taken to address the issue of lack of employment opportunities to urban educated in the country?

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION be pleased to state:-

(a) whether any study has been conducted to see whether unemployment in urban areas is increasing in comparison to rural areas;
(b) whether a large number of unemployed have migrated back to their native places in the absence of employment opportunities in the cities and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken/being taken to address the issue of lack of employment opportunities to urban educated in the country?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION
[RAO INDERJIT SINGH]

(a) :No such study has been conducted by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation.

(b) :Such data is not collected by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviaton.

(c) :This Ministry is implementing “Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM)” to reduce poverty and vulnerability of urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities for improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis. Besides, the Government has taken various steps for generating employment in the country like encouraging private sector of economy, fast tracking various projects involving substantial investment and increasing public expenditure on Schemes like Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). For skilling to provide employment, a new Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has been established to coordinate the skill activities across Ministries. A new Scheme “ Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojna” has been announced in the Budget for 2016-17 with the objective of promoting employment generation and an allocation of Rs.1000 crores has been made.
