ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND
FAMILY WELFARE
(SMT. ANUPRIYA PATEL)
(a): The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had launched the “National Programme for the Health Care of Elderly” (NPHCE) during 2010-11 to address the various health related problems of elderly people.

The major objectives of the NPHCE are establishment of Department of Geriatrics in identified Medical Institutions as Regional Geriatric Centres (RGCs) for different regions of the country and to provide dedicated health facilities at District Hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Sub-Centres (SCs) levels through State Health Society. The details of the funds released to States/UTs and to Regional Medical Institution are given at Annexure- A & B.

(b) & (c): A total no. 20 Medical Institutions had been indentified to establish the Department of Geriatrics under the programme by the end of 12th Five Year Plan. Out of this, 08 medical institutions had been indentified during 11th FYP and remaining 12 were to be covered during 12th FYP. Details of the selected medical institutions to establish RGCs are given at Annexure-B. As on date, financial assistance have been provided to 19 medical institutions to establish the Department of Geriatrics and to carry out tertiary care activities under the programme. Funds could not be released to remaining 01 institution i.e. Government Medical College, Nagpur due to non-submission of signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the State Government of Maharashtra and respective medical institution.
