Restructure of ICDS Scheme

(a) whether the Government proposes to restructure/revamp the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of Anganwadi Centres across the 
(c) whether the Government has conducted any survey to ascertain the number of corruption cases in implementation of the said Scheme in various States across the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise, particularly Assam along with the action taken thereon?

Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Government proposes to restructure/revamp the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of Anganwadi Centres across the 
(c) whether the Government has conducted any survey to ascertain the number of corruption cases in implementation of the said Scheme in various States across the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise, particularly Assam along with the action taken thereon? 

ANSWER

MINISTER OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT
(SHRIMATI MANEKA SANJAY GANDHI)

(a) : There is no proposal to revamp the Anganwadi Services (earlier known as Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Scheme). 

(b) : No, Madam. There is no proposal to increase the number of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) across the country. A total of 14 lakh AWCs have been approved in the country which have been allocated to different States/UTs. Out of this, 13.63 lakh AWCs are operational as on 01.06.2018.

(c) & (d): No, Madam. However, in order to strengthen the performance of Anganwadi Services Scheme, Government has introduced 5-tier monitoring & review mechanism at different levels (National/ State/ District/ Block and Anganwadi level) by involving public representatives for monitoring the status of Anganwadi Centres. Government has issued guidelines on 31.03.2011 for Constitution of Monitoring and Review Committees at different levels to review progress in implementation of the Scheme.
