Will the Minister of DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION be pleased to state:-
(a) the salient features of Swajal Scheme launched by the Government; and
(b) the details of the areas the said scheme is likely to target across the country?

(a)& (b) Swajal was launched as a pilot project in six States namely Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It is now extended to all aspirational districts identified by NITI Aayog spread across 28 States in the country. Swajal scheme will be implemented through public participation / cooperation at the level of Gram Panchayats (GPs). The scheme would be implemented in the villages that are (i) located in the safe block identified by Central Groud Water Board (ii) preferably in an Open Defecation Free (ODF) village and (iii) not having any piped water supply scheme.The Centre:State:GPfunding pattern forNorth Eastern States & Himalayan States is81:09:10 and 45:45:10 for other states. 5% of the funds under NRDWP can be utilized by the State for this which can be met out of the provisions of ‘Flexi fund’.
