(a) the salient features of Ujjawala scheme and the current status of its implementation in the country;
(b) the total number of protective and rehabilitative homes set up under the scheme, State/UT-wise;
(c) the total funds allocated under the scheme during the current and previous financial year, State/UT-wise;
(d) whether the rehabilitative homes include provisions such as counselling and psychological services; and
(e) the steps being taken under the scheme to prevent trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation?

(a) Ujjawala Scheme is implemented by Ministry of Women and Child Development for combating trafficking, with five specific components – Prevention, Rescue, Rehabilitation, Re-Integration and Repatriation (cross-border) of victims of trafficking. The scheme has been conceived primarily for the purpose of preventing trafficking on the one hand and rescue and rehabilitation of victims on the other. The scheme provides for rehabilitation of victims by providing food, shelter, counselling, medical care, legal aid and vocational training as well as their reintegration into society. There are 134 Protective and Rehabilitative Homes in the country and the number of beneficiaries are 5,291.
(b) The total number of protective and rehabilitative homes set up under the scheme, State/UT-wise is given at Annexure-I.
(c) The total funds allocated under the scheme during the current and previous financial year, State/UT-wise is given at Annexure-II.
(d) In order to help recover the victims of trafficking undergoing psychological trauma, professional counselling services are provided through qualified clinical psychologist and psychiatrist.
(e) In order to prevent trafficking of women and children for commercial sexual exploitation, social mobilization and involvement of local communities, awareness generation programmes, generation of public discourse through workshops/seminars etc. are undertaken.
