ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION
(SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO)

(a) to (d): The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Housing for All (Urban) Mission, launched on 25.6.2015, aims to provide assistance to States/UTs in addressing the housing requirement of the slum dwellers and urban poor with the housing shortage estimated at 2 crore.

The Mission Guidelines makes it incumbent upon the States/UTs to undertake demand survey for assessing actual demand of housing. Overall housing requirement under the Mission will, therefore, emerge after demand assessment by all States/Cities.

(e): The amount needed for the projects will vary as the Scheme progresses. Financial resources required under the Mission will be met through Central assistance and shares of State/Urban Local Body /Beneficiary. State Governments/Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) may, however, monetize the land required for the projects in lieu of their share.

(f) & (g): Land and colonisation are State subjects, proposals of States in this Ministry are considered for sanctioning admissible central assistance for the projects approved at State Level. As the projects under the Mission are undertaken by the States/UTs, pace of construction of houses under the Mission, therefore, varies from State to State. The Mission, however, envisions housing for all by 2022. Details of proposals for construction of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) houses accepted for Central assistance upto 31/1/2016 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Housing for All (Urban) Mission, is at Annexure.

  1. Dear Sir,

I am willing to apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in 2017. My husband has a house property as a joint owner with his mother and brother. This property was received as legal heir after their father's demise. Am I eligible to apply for PMAY?

    Thank you.
