Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government has achieved the aims and objectives of implementing the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) and Swadesh Darshan Schemes in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof, scheme-wise and if not, the reasons therefor along with the reaction of the Government thereto;
(c) the details of the funds provided under the said schemes along with its utilization since inception, scheme-wise and State-wise;
(d) whether the Government has received requests/proposals from various State Governments to include pilgrimage sites for development and beautification under the said schemes since 2014; and
(e) if so, the details thereof along with the action taken/being taken by the Government on such requests/proposals so far?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.*8 ANSWERED ON 18.07.2016 REGARDING FUNDS SANCTIONED FOR PRASAD SCHEME

(a) & (b): The Plan Schemes PRASAD- National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive and Swadesh Darshan for Integrated Development of theme based tourist circuits in the country were launched in January 2015. Under the PRASAD scheme 13 sites have been identified for development, namely Ajmer, Amritsar, Amaravati, Dwarka, Gaya, Kedarnath, Kamakhaya, Kanchipuram, Mathura, Patna, Puri, Varanasi and Velankanni. Under Swadesh Darshan scheme 13 circuits have been identified for development namely, North-East India Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit and Heritage Circuit.

(c): Since its launch, 35 projects under both the schemes for a total estimated cost of Rs.2238.12 crore have been sanctioned. The details of projects sanctioned under both the schemes are annexed at I and II.

(d) & (e): Identification of more destinations under the scheme is a continuous process, subject to availability of resources and adherence to scheme guidelines.
