ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION
(RAO INDERJIT SINGH)

(a) to (c): The Central Government has launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) {PMAY (U)}’ mission on 25.06.2015 to facilitate the efforts of the States / UTs in addressing the housing shortage of its citizens belonging to the urban poor in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Lower Income Group (LIG) segments. State-wise details of beneficiaries under the PMAY (U) mission up to January, 2017, are at Annexure-I.
PMAY(U) mission scheme guidelines provide flexibility to States/UTs to appraise and approve projects based on the demand assessed by it. States/UTs are thus required to approach the Central Government only for release of Central assistance. States/UTs have been requested to ensure that the construction of houses sanctioned under the projects are completed in time. In order to ease administrative and regulatory bottlenecks and to facilitate growth of housing sector, a set of mandatory conditions have also been included in the PMAY (Urban) scheme guidelines. States/UTs have committed to fulfill the mandatory conditions.

Affordable Housing in Partnership with Public and Private sector is a component under the PMAY(U) mission. This is a supply side intervention. Under this vertical of PMAY (U), financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 lakh per beneficiary household is provided to EWS houses being built by the State/UT in partnership with public and private sector. So far, 542 projects for construction of 5,75,746 Houses of EWS category have been sanctioned under this vertical of PMAY (U) in various States/UTs. Details are at Annexure-II.
