Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:-
(a) the details of schemes being implemented by Sports Authority of India (SAI) for encouraging sports and selection of sports talent and training;
(b) the details of amount spent to encourage sports during the last three years, State and year-wise; and
(c) the details of achievements at the international sports events during the last three years?

MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS

(a) Sports is a state subject. However, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) through Sports Authority of India (SAI) is implementing the following sports promotional schemes to identify talented sports persons in the age group of 8-25 years and nurture them to excel at national and international levels:

? National Sports Talent Contest Scheme (NSTC)
? Army Boys Sports Company (ABSC)
? SAI Training Centre (STC)
? Special Area Games (SAG)
? Extension Centre of STC/SAG
? Centre of Excellence (CoE)
? National Sports Academies (NSA)

SAI has established 10 Regional Centres and 02 educational institutions to implement the above sports promotional schemes in the country through 251 SAI sports centres. Presently, 11773 talented sports persons (6626 boys and 5147girls) are being trained in 27 sports disciplines on the residential and non-residential basis.

The selected trainees are provided with facilities in the form of expert coaches, sports equipment, boarding and lodging, sports kit, competition exposure, educational expenses, medical insurance and stipend as per the approved scheme norms.

(b) The scheme-wise expenditure incurred to encourage sports in the last three years is provided at Annexure – I.

(c) The list of medals won by SAI trainees in International sports events during the last three years is provided at Annexure - II.
