AYUSH under Universal Health Insurance Scheme

MALLIKARJUN KHARGE

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to include AYUSH under Universal Health Insurance Scheme and if so, the details thereof; and
(b) whether the Government is planning to promote collaborative research and education in AYUSH with WHO, if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND
FAMILY WELFARE
(SHRI FAGGAN SINGH KULASTE)
(a): At present, the government is implementing two centrally sponsored Health Insurance Schemes namely Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and Senior Citizens Health Insurance Scheme to provide health insurance coverage to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and workers of 11 other defined categories of Unorganized Sectors. Senior Citizens Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS) is a top up over the existing RSBY scheme. AYUSH Treatment/Medicines are not included under these packages.

(b): Ministry of AYUSH has signed Project Collaboration Agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on 13.05.2016. Under the agreement, India would assign to WHO activities for development of the following WHO Technical documents/publications:
Benchmarks for training in Yoga
Benchmarks for practice in Ayurveda
Benchmarks for practice in Unani Medicine
Benchmarks for practice in Panchkarma

The development of the WHO Technical documents/publications will help in better international acceptability of Indian Systems of Medicines.
